Drilling uses water or bentonite mud to remove cuttings and cool the drill bit. The well is constructed with PVC or galvanized steel casing and a screen placed in the aquifer zone. A gravel or sand pack filters out fine particles, while a bentonite and cement seal protects against surface contamination.
